OB Robotic News: FIRST Robotic Cesarean Section Performed

OB NEWS: FIRST Robotic Cesarean Section Performed

July 20, 2014
(Dallas, Texas)

Combining one of the most historic surgeries with modern technology, physicians in Dallas have performed the first robotic cesarean section successfully."We were all quite anxious and optimistic, all at the same time", remarked chief surgeon and investigator, Hector O. Chapa, MD of Women's Specialty Center Dallas. "We would like to thank all of those who shared our vision and participated in this remarkable endeavor! Truly, a first for the history books!", Dr Chapa emotionally stated at a news briefing after the successful delivery.

The procedure, the first of it's kind, took 3 hours and 15 minutes resulting in a successful live birth of a vigorous newborn male infant. "Mom and baby are both doing we;;. And due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, our new mom may be discharged home in 12 hours", declared Dr.Exx, the main assistant during the surgery.

The groundbreaking surgery involves five small incisions on the patient's abdomen, one of which is enlarged to place a "baby catch bag" for fetal delivery through a minimally invasive 3 centimeter incision. This clear polyurethane bag was specifically designed and manufactured for this one test procedure. No fetal injury occurred during the fetal delivery through the modified skin port, although the investigators are not sure if the catch bag will be sufficient for a robotic BREECH extraction. Further details on the procedure are being with-held for proprietary reasons until the medical manuscript describing the procedure is published in medical literature.

As medicine progresses to a more minimally invasive approach, with less postoperative pain and quicker recovery, more and more "traditional" surgeries may be listed on the "minimally invasive" list. Other potential candidate surgeries include dental root canals, vasectomies, skin mole excisions, and robotic tattoos for the aesthetically inclined.

Disclosures: Dr. Hector O. Chapa is a Board Certified ObGyn with a special interest in minimally invasive gynecology. He serves as a medical consultant to several global medical device corporations, and assists in several regulatory and advisory boards. He is known to periodically post satirical stories (such as the one herein) meant to simply lighten your day, and bring a smile to your face. Please do not email or call for further information on the robotic cesarean, because, well, its fictional.

Dr Chapa advises against attempting the robotic cesarean section due to the fact that...well, that would be crazy.
Good day.
